The department was originally formed in 1958 when a group of 15 local men personally borrowed $5,000 to purchase the department's first truck.  The Zimmerman Fire Department was renamed Zimmerman/Livonia Fire District in 2004, when the City of Zimmerman and Livonia Township formed a joint operating fire board.  The Fire Department covers 78 square miles of service area which includes all of the City of Zimmerman, Livonia Township, and portions of Orrock Township, Blue Hill Township, and Stanford Township.  The population served by the Department is approximately 12,000 citizens.

Zimmerman/Livonia Fire District operates out of one centrally located station.  The station is located in Zimmerman at 26140 136th Street NW and in addition to the fire station houses the Station 1 Event Center available for rent .

To find out more information on the Event Center please call 763-856-0480 or cindy@station1events.com

The fire district offers a full range of services to the community including fire suppression, rescue, and radiation decontamination for the nuclear power plant in Monticello.

Fire prevention is a large part of the Fire Department.  Our firefighters and fire prevention specialist visit schools and host in-house activities throughout the year.  During Fire Prevention week every October, our fire department visits elementary schools and pre-schools with our safe escape house.

The Fire District hired the Department's first full-time Fire Chief in 2008.  The Fire Chief manages the Fire Department and has a staff of 30 on-call firefighters that hold full-time jobs outside of the Fire Department.  The firefighters are on-call 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.  These highly trained firefighters provide a quality service to the citizens in our community.
