Yard Waste Site

The City of Zimmerman operates a yard waste site to help residents who are unable to compost leaves and grass in their own backyard. Please note, this is a leaf and brush drop-off site only. Compost is not available. The entrance to the site is located on 2nd Street East, behind Nelson Nursery. From Fremont Avenue (County Road 4) go south on Main Street. After you pass the City Park ball fields, you'll see the sign posted at the entrance that says "Leaf and Brush Site." Take a right at the sign and continue down the road approximately 1/4 mile.

**SPRING 2026 DETOUR** Yard Waste site is accessible by taking Hwy 169 to 255th Ave at the Faith Lutheran Church.


Acceptable items include:

Leaves

Grass clippings

Brush

Branches less than 20" in diameter, including diseased trees

 

We DO NOT accept:

Boxes

Commercial Waste

Concrete

Garbage

Leaf bags 

Treated lumber

Wood/yard waste from outside Sherburne County



Anyone wishing to access the site will need an electronic key-card for entry. Key-cards can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours. City of Zimmerman and Sherburne County residents (excluding residents who reside within Elk River City Limits) who provide proof of residency and are eligible to receive one free electronic key-card per household. An additional card may be purchased for $10.00.

Replacement cards are $10.00 each.

Commercial Use

As of January 1, 2021, commercial businesses will not be able to purchase an access pass.  Residents who have commercial Sherburne County businesses perform work at their residences may use the resident's access pass to access the site to alleviate disposal charges that the business would pass on to the property owner.
